Volunteer Your Time

Volunteers are a very special part of the Gander Women’s Centre.  Your support and involvement with the Centre influences how the GWC is viewed by others in the community. Moreover, we could not offer the range of support and services without the help of our volunteers. There are many different ways to volunteer. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteer opportunities, please contact Lori at women.gander@nf.aibn.com

What do Volunteers Receive?

  • Training

  • A sense of giving back to the community.

  • A chance to increase your knowledge and learn new skills through networking with others of similar interests

  • A meaningful way of expressing your values

  • An opportunity to share your skills and expertise

Volunteer Training:

This program provides a free opportunity to develop support skills, learn about local services and find out ways to give back to your community or self. Trainees will review and expand their understanding of feminism; develop a comprehensive understanding of how systemic inequities impact on women and improve their lay counselling skills.

Job Description:

Volunteering ranges from event specific to an-on-call position.   Another option is ongoing involvement at regularly scheduled events in different capacities, including set-up, take-down, decorating, food, transportation and handing out information about the Women’s Centre. Volunteer role, time commitment, and benefits of each event will be clearly described.
